Week 40 (and 2 days) letter

Dear Ellie girl,

You are still "Ellie in my belly" as of right now.....and this weeks email tells me you are now the size of a.........baby! So I guess that means you can come out now :) I am feeling good, maybe just little anxious but NOT impatient. Just very curious of when the time will be is all. Waking every morning, wondering "Is today the day?" or going to bed each night thinking " Is tonight the night?" Also wondering if every feeling in my belly is the beginning of you coming into the world!

But truly, I do feel so good. Your dad is being very great and supportive and encouraging in these final days too. He is my best friend and I am so so thankful for him.

We accomplished so much in your room this past weekend!! And I am really loving how it is all coming together. I still have little projects to do and finish but I just love the overall feel and look. I sat in the rocking chair last night, just thinking of you and picturing all the moments we will have in there. Reading, playing, singing, dancing, making, pretending, etc....

Baby girl, you have already brought me such JOY! I can't help but smile when I think of what is to come.

We took a LONG walk last night in the rainy evening and spoke of you for most of the time. I talked about how my 8 weeks of maternity leave are going to go so fast and I really just want to soak it all up. I was reminded by a great mama friend this week how fast it all really does go and to treasure it. I plan to do just that girly. I know I have a tendency to want things to be a certain way, or have strong opinions on things, or expectations, or to want to keep the house clean, yadda yadda, but I am going to make a concious effort in these coming 8 weeks to just soak up being a new mama and enjoy every bit, even the hard moments. I hope this sets a good foundation for our entire life together....to NOT get caught up in all the things that really don't matter that I miss out on the things that truly do. Those little moments, those special times. I am sure I will learn SO many lessons, daily even, being your mama. I am READY girly....and I hope the things I learn, I can one day share with you!

It really is coming soon Ellie girl! We are hearing lots of predictions of when the day and time will be! You have so many people, family and friends both, that are very excited to meet you. You are already so special to them and are so loved!

I will MEET you soon my darling babe!!

love,

mama

Week 39 letter

Dear Ellie,

39 weeks! That means it's almost over.....well, actually it's all about to BEGIN!, but I mean being pregnant is almost over. Having you grow inside me from being the size of "1/2 of a pea" to now the size of a small rabbit (according the internet!).

Honestly, it has been truly amazing, all of it. I feel so lucky and blessed that it was easy and great and continues to be, right up until the very end. These past 9 months have changed me, I can feel it. These past months have brought your dad and my relationship to a whole new level. These past 9 months have brought YOU! It has been nothing short of beautiful to me. (ok, ok I am a sap! Those aren't hormones talking, this is me girly!)

Last night, I laid in bed for a bit, looking up some songs on my ipod to make into a birth mix, mostly worship songs, and I was just able to lay there and reflect. I was overwhelmed in the best way....first by my love for you, but even more so by God's love for me! I hope and pray that you feel this in your own life one day. It is an amazing thing.

This past week, we moved out of your room! This is very exciting for me, since I have been dreaming, planning, and decorating (in my head) your room from the very get go. Also, I love OUR new room....I love the color that your dad picked out all by himself, I love the french doors leading to the back yard and the huge windows that let in lots of light, I especially love seeing your bassinet in there, just waiting to be filled with you!

I think even as I am typing this now, your room is being painted the sweetest shade of pink by your dad. I never thought I would go for so much pink in your room (it's really only the walls though) but it just makes me happy!

I dreamed about you the other night, my love. I haven't been able to picture your face at all these past 9 months, but in my dream I saw it! I still can't describe it with words but it was you! Just the feeling was there, and I knew it was you. You were sleeping so soundly, that in the dream I did the whole "check and make sure you were breathing" thing. I am sure I will have many of those moments so soon in real life.

I am looking forward to those moments of feeling so connected to you as your mom, of protectiveness, love, nurturing, all of it. Of experiencing the moments I didn't even know I was capable of experiencing!

We're about to start a new chapter in this adventure Ellie girl, I know it won't always be sunshine and rainbows, that along the way with all the great stuff, there will be hard days and tears, but without a doubt I know it will all be so so worth it! I am thankful for you, my daughter! And so excited to meet you......soon!

love,

mama

Week 29 letter

Dear Loaf of Bread length Ellie,

You are about 15.5 inches this week and approximately 3 pounds now. I promise, if I continue these weekly letters after your born, I won’t tell you your height and weight in them anymore. Just maybe in the letters where I write about your doctors appointments- it seems like that’s just what moms do!

Baby girl, you continue to amaze me! Feeling you move all around is the neatest feeling ever. It has changed in the last few weeks from faster movements to slower rolls and probably stretches! I’m guessing it’s because you have less and less room in there with all the growing you are doing.

This past weekend, we went to our first *Hypnobabies class. It was so great! I was very curious about what it would be like and maybe a little worried that your daddy would be skeptical, but we both enjoyed it so much. We have learned a lot already and are excited for the next 5 weeks, and really beyond that because we will continue to practice it even after the class ends up until you are born. The class comes with daily homework, stuff for your daddy to read to me and then things for me to do on my own. It is neat to know that each and every day/night, I will be doing something in preparation for you. And every part of it is calming and relaxing, what a treat!

We also on a whim decided to check out a store in town that sells used baby stuff. We were so amazed at just how much they had to offer there! And how cute so much of it was! We (or maybe more me!) had to restrain ourselves from making a few purchases, but just could not leave without buying you a teensy little swimsuit for next summer We both fell in love with it! It is white and has little cherries all over it and a little skirt. Your daddy commented he liked it because it was modest! Spoken like a true father of a daughter! I’m sure he’ll be wanting to approve your swimwear for the next 18 years, and I love him for it!!

Something I am seeing so much lately is just how much God is providing for you and us in this time! It is such a blessing and neat assurance. Knowing that our Heavenly Father has everything worked out and a perfect plan is such a great feeling of freedom. Just today, a friend of ours from church who is also the guy that built our kitchen cabinets, told me he has a tradition of blessing families in the church with a custom made changing table for their nurseries! I was just amazed at this generous gift and even more so because it is the one piece of furniture we were lacking! Everything else we needed has been given to us already. I was just going to use the long counter in our bathroom since the bathroom is connected to your room, but now we will have a changing table handmade! especially for you!!

I hope as you read through these letters one day and we tell you about this time, that God being in the midst of all this is something that you can’t help but see. That you will be drawn closer to Him, just knowing that He was a part of your life before you were even born. That it is Him who created you and loved you even before you ever came into our lives. We love you because He first loved us!

and girlie, let me tell you......You are SO loved!

love,

mama

*For our friends and family members who read this blog, if you would like to know more about Hypnobabies, please check out this link. It explains A LOT about the program! We are very confident in this program and excited to put it to use!

Week 28 letter

Dear Ellie,

This week you are the length of a churro (about 15 in.) and weigh about 2.5 lbs. This week was really special because on Monday, we got to see you!! We had another ultrasound, a 3D-4D one and it really showed what you are looking like! I was just so in awe of your cuteness! I couldn’t stop saying it.

The whole ultrasound experience in itself was great and it definitely came with a set of memorable moments, because of a few things. First, when we went to leave the house, the car would not start at all! So we quickly realized we were going to have to walk to the appointment. Fortunately, it’s about 9 blocks away from our house so we were only a little late. I had to ask your daddy to slow down though cause he was speed walking! Or maybe I am just getting slower?? Probably more of the latter.

Then, once we got to the appt. you had other plans for showing us your face because you were hiding behind both your feet and your hands for the longest time! The tech was shaking, wiggling, and jiggling my belly FOREVER! to try and get you to move, but you must be a little yoga baby because you were perfectly content in your pretzel position.

I was almost ready to give up and tell the tech, it was ok if we didn’t get any of your face, but then you finally revealed it to us! Wow! It really took my love for you to a whole other level getting to see your cute face! And to think it, will be a million times better to see it once you’re outside of me!

Seeing you really made me think about how close it is! This week is the beginning of the 3rd trimester, which means just 12 weeks left! Wow! I am really starting to look forward to working on you room, even though we are still probably a month from being able to do that! I think I am changing my mind on the color of it too, but still figuring all that out!

This weekend, we start our baby classes in Portland for the next 6 Saturdays and also we are going to pick up the cloth diapers we were able to get for you off of craigslist (Thanks Des!!) I am so glad we are going to do cloth and thankful especially for the financial savings! Your Grandma Kathy is helping us out with paying for them too! So it is an even bigger savings to us! Between that and all the baby stuff we are getting from your other Grandparents, including the crib! we are so very blessed.

Well, Ellie girl, time to end this weeks letter. You are so so loved!!

love,

mama

Week 27 letter

Dear pot roast sized Ellie girl,

This week you are approx. 14 inches from head to heel and 2 lbs! You are getting bigger each day my little love! I hope your home is nice and cozy in there.

This weeks letter is a little late because I have had a bad cold most of the week, it has had me laid out! It makes me wonder what it will be like when I have you to take care of and I am sick? Because I haven't even wanted to take care of myself with the way I have been feeling but I guess that's when the mama super powers kick in and you do what you gotta do! Your dad has been so sweet to do tons for me and check on me all day, even while not feeling so hot himself! I love him.

I think I have finally felt you hiccuping in there! It took me a while to realize it, but once I figured it out, it's so cute. Also, this week, while in the bath, I got to SEE you move in my belly. It was weird and so awesome! I love getting to feel it all.

There's a lot coming up this next week. On Monday, we get to see you again!! with a 3-D ultrasound, tues/wed one of your future buddies; Jameson is going to be born!, Friday we have another midwife appointment (the sugar test one), and Saturday we start our baby birthing classes that will go for 6 Saturdays! Wow! Oh and also this next week, we move into the 3rd trimester! Only 12 +/- weeks to go from there!! I still have lots to do :)

Baby girl, I love you so much! I can't wait to meet you and hold you in my arms!

love,

your mama

Week 7 letter

Dear blueberry sized baby!

Today, I think I got my first official taste of morning sickness, but thankfully everything stayed put! I'm not complaining though, I love and embrace all the symptoms so far because that means you are real my little love! I am counting down the days until that first Midwife appointment and fingers crossed we will hopefully get to hear your heart beat!

We told a lot of family this past weekend and everyone was so excited! Your arrival will make my Oregon grandparents (Dad's parents) GREAT grandparents for the first time! and it will make my California grandparents (Mom's parents) GREAT grandparents for the 8th!!! time. WOW!

My mom was sooooo excited! I am thankful we were able to tell her in person! We gave her a little bib that said "I love grandma!" She told me she is going to frame it and put it by her desk. She wants you to be a girl but I know she will love you just as much even if you are a boy :)

Speaking of girls, I had a dream about you a few nights ago (my first about you!) and in it you were a little red headed girl!! This may be because we have some friends with a cute little red headed girl but Matt's sister has red hair, so I think it's possible for you to have red hair, maybe?!

Another amazing and exciting thing happened just today actually, it turns out that now 2 of my college roomates who both also live in Salem are pregnant as well! I already knew about one of them (Amanda!) cause she is I think about 15 weeks? and had told us a while back but when I was checking our "roomate blog" to see when we can all get together so I could tell them about you, Jami had put on there she is pregnant too!!! This is soo great and fun! Now we really have to get together! Looks like you already will have new insta-buddies when you are born!

Little blueberry, I have been reading and re-reading the week by week stuff in the "What to Expect...." book and I just can't wait for all that is to come. Each night as I fall asleep, my hand rests on my tummy (as Matt would call it) and just think of you and pray for you!

You are so loved!

love,
your mama

Week 6 letter

Dear "1/2 the size of a pea" baby!

Last week you were the size of a seasame seed, and this week according to the internet it seems like you have doubled in size! Even though I can't feel you, I know you are there. I have never been so aware of my body it seems. Every stomach gurgle or feeling I think of you. It's all still very unreal me and I think your daddy too! I know he is excited though, he keeps thinking and telling people our Dr.'s appt is perpetually 3 days away, and I have to laugh and remind him, it's actually 3 weeks! We should be able to hear your heart beat at that appointment and maybe that's when it will really feel so real. With every person we tell, we grow more excited. I can't seem to wipe the goofy grin off my face every where I go, people must be wondering what my deal is, since to everyone else, they would never know. I look forward to the day I will begin to actually look pregnant! I am so happy about you! So excited! God is good and I am more convinced then ever His timing is perfect!

This coming weekend, we plan to tell the rest of the family, your grandma (my mom) and my grandparents (both mom's and dad's parents) and quite a bit more family at Noel's graduation party. I can't wait to see their reactions. You are going to very loved my little 1/2 of a pea! You already are SO much!

love, mama
